The Coal Advisory Service (CAS) was set up by the Northern Ireland Coal Importers Association and The National Coal Board in 1961.
The aim was to provide affordable coal-fired central heating in Northern Ireland houses particularly to tenants of Northern Ireland Housing Executive and also to provide a full back up maintenance service.
Today the CAS operates a telephone hotline for advice to coal users. This mainly concerns the safe and efficient operation of appliances, chimney issues and types of fuels available in Northern Ireland and is fully supported and funded by the following local coal importers:
- Kingsberry Fuels
- Capper Trading
- Kelly Fuels
- Hayes Fuels
- Lissan Coal(incorporating Campsie Fuels)
- Star Coal
